Ice Walls

There are many tiny streams and dribbles that seep over and through the walls of the gorge. In the winter, huge icicles build up from these, sometimes covering the walls and the areas below, including the gorge trail.

There's limited viewing of these icy walls during the winter when the gorge trail is closed. Apart from the Suspension Bridge, almost all are at various points along the north rim trails: the Indian Trail, Point Lookout, Lovers Lane and the trail that goes down to the gorge trail at Mile Point Bridge. Shots from these points – except for those from the Suspension Bridge, the Central Cascade Overlook and the Rainbow Falls Overlook – are grouped here on this page.
