Buttermilk Falls
Lower (Inner) Gorge

At the top of what may be thought of as Buttermilk Falls proper, the water pours out of a narrow crevasse. Well, maybe not a crevasse, but a narrow "inner" gorge not nearly so wide as the gorge the main Falls has been cascading down. I would guess it's mostly 20-25 feet from rim to rim with walls of solid rock.

The trail travels along the rim of this inner gorge while still being a "gorge trail" for the larger, outer gorge. The inner gorge is deep and dark and much of it remains unviewable from the trail.

A note on names: The term "entrance" here refers to the gorge entrance rather than the actual water entrance. It's the "entrance" to the inner gorge as you walk up the gorge trail from the main park entrance below.
